Thrall of Neanderthal

So thought that was my last post but when i saw this term for the second time today, had to tag it. Heard of 'living fossil'? (Websters: "an organism that is a living example of an otherwise extinct group and that has remained virtually unchanged in structure and function over a long period of time"). Check out the coelacanth, thought to have died round 90 mille yrs ago - but in '38 found off the coast of south africa; lives in sea depths, scientists believe the first amphibian that crawled out of the sea on to dry land 400 million yrs ago, developed from this scare. Shit - this fish even has teeth, is a meateater and gives birth to live young. just look at those fins, a brief hop to limbs; this thing is clearly hinting at something. This reminds me of the face of a lady i saw when i was 6 and it struck me she had to be an archaelogical intrigue - her cranium was the Neanderthal standard and I was transfixed but in the killing merrygoround of the stations of the cross, lost sight of her forever. prominent brow ridges, low, sloping forehead, chinless and heavy forward-jutting jaw, pale-skinned and utterly anachronistic - a captivating living fossil. sha!
